Instructional Design Technologies in Various Settings

This week, a classmate is leading a discussion on Instructional Design Technologies in Various Settings. This is a great module because every sector or industry has a learning or educational component. For example, trade schools will train students a specific job skill such as working on diesel engines, plumbing, welding, and of course every other sector from health care, military, business, etc. contains lessons for learning with objectives. This means Instructional Design can be used in any of these settings and more as a way to meet learning objectives and outcomes. Here is a document I created in 2016 that explains Instruction and Instructional Design if you might want to read a little bit more about Instructional Design. Learning settings can be anywhere! In a classroom, in a garage, outside, via Zoom, the Zoo, space-really the options are limitless. As I was reading the module and all the different types of educational technologies, Google jamboard came to mind! If you have never checked out Google Jamboard, Jamboards can be interactive. You can check out my video where I create my first Jamboard (it's over 10 minutes) and also show a couple of other Jamboard examples. (Update: I am just realizing my recording did not capture any of my audio! :( So sorry folks! Here is a link to a 14 minute video that demonstrates How to Use Google Jamboard. You can watch this video instead of mine or just go give it a whirl. Play with Jamboard and figure it out.) Of course they do not have to be interactive. You could create a Jamboard just for show and present it, but you may as well use Google slides if you want to do that. The interaction among many learners or students with Jamboard, and the colors, laser option, etc. are what makes the Jamboard visually appealing and fun.

How can you use Jamboard in your educational setting? Give it a try!

To be continued...

I revised my post above to include a little bit more about Instructional Design. Now I want to get back to educational technologies. One of my favorite educational technologies is Google if you haven't figured that out by now. Google offers all sorts of software applications for Word Processing (Google Docs), Spreadsheets and Charts (Google Sheets), presentations (Google Slides), file and cloud storage (Google Drive), photo cloud storage (Google photos), email (Gmail), and I could go on for a while. However, I want to pick up on one of my favorites of the Google software applications, which is Google sheets. I have used Google sheets to create rubrics for classes I teach. I have used Google sheets to keep track of my personal finances. I have used Google sheets to plan and organize special events both professional and personally. A colleague of mine, actually our Chief Financial Officer is preparing to teach a class on Finance and Ministry and found these great free training resources called Google Cloud Skills Boost Training. Here are a couple of links to check out if you are a spreadsheet person and want to know more about Google sheets:
